About "Neue Haas Grotesk Display"

In 1957-1958, the initial weights of Neue Haas Grotesk were crafted by Max Miedinger for the Haas'sche Schriftgiesserei in Switzerland, under the art direction of Eduard Hoffmann, the company's principal.

The objective was to create a response to the British and German grotesque typefaces, which had gained immense popularity due to the success of functionalist Swiss typography.

Subsequently, Neue Haas Grotesk underwent revisions and was eventually released as Helvetica by Linotype AG.

However, this transition was not without significant changes, as Neue Haas Grotesk needed adjustments to function on Linotype's hot metal linecasters, resulting in Linotype Helvetica, which, in some aspects, was a considerably altered version of the original typeface.

For instance, the matrices for Regular and Bold had to be of equal widths, necessitating a narrower redraw of the Bold variant.
