Microsoft
The Typography Group at Microsoft, which manages both fonts and font rendering systems in Windows, has primarily used the TrueType system, licensed from Apple, since version 3.1. With the partnership of Monotype, this group developed versions of Times New Roman, Arial, and Courier New with the goal of screen legibility and released them with Windows 3.1. These core fonts have continuously evolved to support a greater variety of global languages. A program to create new type designs was initiated in the mid-1990s under Robert Norton, using TrueType technology.
