Hermann Berthold started the H. Berthold typefoundry in Berlin in 1858, known for its high-quality typeface production. It was the world's largest foundry by 1918, boasting offices in Stuttgart, St. Petersburg, Leipzig, Riga, Budapest and Vienna. The foundry, apart from its primary typesetting equipment business, also developed superior quality typefaces. Akzidenz-Grotesk (released 1896), their most famous typeface family, is often recognized as the progenitor of all sans serifs. Desktop: for use on a desktop workstation. For personal and professional use in desktop applications. This includes installation on Mac OS X or Windows system and use within applications such as Microsoft Word, Mac Pages, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, etc. Create and print documents, as well as static images (.jpeg, .tiff, .png) Desktop licenses are based on the number of users of the fonts.
Webfont: For use on a single domain. Cannot be shared across multiple websites by agencies responsible for multiple sites. Usage in graphic images shown on the website may require a Desktop license. Three types of webfont licenses available: Annual, Pay Once, and Pay As You Go.
Digital Ad/Email: For use in HTML5 ads. Embed fonts into digital ads built using HTML5. This license includes a kit with webfonts for use within digital ads. Webfonts may be shared with third parties creating ad creatives.
Electronic Doc: For embedding in e-text products such as eBooks, eMagazines, eNewspapers, or interactive PDFs. This license is based on the number of publications in which the font is used.
App: For embedding in mobile applications when developing an app for iOS, Android, or Windows Phone.
