Originating from the typeface Oldstyle Antique, designed by A.
C.
Phemister around 1858 for the Miller and Richard foundry in Edinburgh, Scotland, Bookman Old Style has a rich history.
This typeface evolved into what is now known as Bookman, with numerous American foundries producing their versions.
The Monotype Bookman Old Style roman is directly based on earlier Lanston Monotype and ATF models, while the italic has been redrawn in the style of the Oldstyle Antique italics from Miller and Richard.
Despite its designation as "Old Style," the near-vertical stress of the face places it within the transitional category.
The Bookman Old Style font family is characterized as a legible and robust text face, combining historical roots with contemporary design elements.
