Hermann Berthold started the H. Berthold typefoundry in Berlin in 1858, known for its high-quality typeface production. It was the world's largest foundry by 1918, boasting offices in Stuttgart, St. Petersburg, Leipzig, Riga, Budapest and Vienna. The foundry, apart from its primary typesetting equipment business, also developed superior quality typefaces. Akzidenz-Grotesk (released 1896), their most famous typeface family, is often recognized as the progenitor of all sans serifs. Desktop: Intended for use on a desktop workstation. Applicable for both personal and professional uses in various desktop applications. The usage includes installing the font on Mac OS X or Windows system, utilizing it within apps such as Microsoft Word, Mac Pages, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, and more. It also covers the creation and printing of documents and static images. The number of font users governs the purchase of Desktop licenses and can be changed by selecting the quantity on Buying Choices or Cart pages. Some restrictions may apply for use in logos/trademarks, geographic restrictions, and products for sale. To add more users, simply place a new order for the same Desktop package, covering additional users.
Webfont: Suitable for usage on a single domain. A separate license is required for each website managed by agencies such as web design agencies or hosting providers. Webfonts are counted as per each page view where the webfont kit CSS is loaded. To use the font in graphic images displayed on the website, a Desktop license is recommended. There are various types of webfont licenses available: Annual, Pay Once, and Pay As You Go.
Digital Ad/Email: Can be used in HTML5 ads including embedding the fonts into digital ads. This license covers fonts used within digital ads, with prices reflecting the usage patterns of digital ads which can vary significantly comparing to websites.
