Adobe Systems is a company based in San Jose, California, established in 1982 by founders John Warnock and Chuck Geschke. Becoming a billion dollar company in 1999, Adobe has been providing numerous applications for image and text handling, as well as possessing a robust type library. The firm's growth is attributed mainly to the success of the PostScript graphics programming language, a standard in the printing industry since the mid-1980s. Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop are widely used in graphic design. Furthermore, the PDF format introduced by Adobe is also considered a global standard for document exchange. In 1990, Adobe launched the Adobe Type Manager (ATM) which facilitated on-screen font rendering.
