In his interview with Creative Characters, Mika Melvas expressed that he has always harbored a deep interest in hand lettering, graffiti, sign painting, and calligraphy. As a child, he found himself particularly drawn to graffiti, oftentimes sketching it in his notebooks. Even in art class, he favored tasks that incorporated typographical elements. At one point, he discovered calligraphy - an art form he found incredibly fascinating. He recognized its difficulty, requiring regular practice and leaving no room for mistakes or shortcuts. Despite not being a master at it, he enjoyed the activity and believed it enhanced his skills as a type designer and lettering artist.
