Monotype Imaging has given the widely used Comic Sans® typeface a fresh look with the introduction of the Comic Sans Pro family of typefaces, featuring four fonts.

Originally designed by Vincent Connare for Microsoft in 1994, Comic Sans Pro extends the versatility of the original design, incorporating elements like speech bubbles and cartoon dingbats.

Allan Haley, the director of words and letters at Monotype Imaging, emphasizes the widespread use of Comic Sans in various applications, from scrapbooking to professional environments like medical information, instructions, signage, and corporate communication.

Vincent Connare praises Monotype Imaging for revitalizing Comic Sans and bringing it back to its roots as a comic book lettering face.

The Comic Sans Pro family includes regular and bold fonts, along with two new italic and bold italic fonts crafted by Monotype Imaging's Terrance Weinzierl.

The font boasts a range of typographic features, such as swashes, small caps, ornaments, old-style figures, and stylistic alternates, all supported by the OpenType font format.

This makes Comic Sans Pro suitable for a variety of creative applications, from second wedding announcements to warning labels.

OpenType-savvy applications like Adobe Creative Suite, QuarkXPress, and Mellel are necessary to access these features, and Comic Sans Pro is compatible with new versions of Microsoft Office, including Word 2010 and Publisher 2010.

The typeface also includes a set of pre-sized ornaments and symbols, such as speech bubbles, onomatopoeia, and dingbats, adding a playful touch to design elements.
