Drawn by Sol Hess between 1936 and 1947, Century Gothic™ is based on Monotype 20th Century.
While preserving the fundamental design of 20th Century, Century Gothic features an enlarged x-height and has undergone modifications to ensure optimal performance on modern digital systems.
Influenced by the geometric style sans serif faces popular in the 1920s and 30s, this font family is particularly suitable for headlines, general display work, and small amounts of text in advertising.
The Century Gothic font family now comprises 14 weights in a Pan-European character set, ranging from Thin to Black, including their respective Italics.
Additionally, the existing 4 weights of Regular and Bold, along with their Italics, are still available in the STD character set.
For international communications, the W1G versions of Century Gothic support almost all popular languages and writing systems in western, eastern, and central Europe based on the Latin alphabet.
This includes support for several languages and writing systems based on the Cyrillic and Greek alphabets.
