Developed in three stages, Cambria Math is a variant designed specifically for mathematical and scientific texts, intended as a substitute for Times New Roman.
The project was spearheaded by Jelle Bosma of Agfa Monotype and Ross Mills of Tiro Typeworks.
Cambria Math was the inaugural font to incorporate the OpenType math extension, drawing inspiration from TeX.
The planning of the project coincided with the initiation of Cambria's development.
