Michael Hagemann
FontMesa, established in 2000 by Michael Hagemann, a photographer and type designer, has a specialization in designing type styles of the old west and sign lettering fonts. Some of the fonts are derived from classic Italian (Tuscan) and French styles, with new lowercase letters added. Some were developed from a small set of letters discovered in old documents not originally intended to comprise a complete font. FontMesa's ongoing initiative entails researching and discovering old typefaces from the 1800s, reviving those that have been long forgotten, and bringing them into the digital age ensuring their eternal preservation. Focusing on quality, all FontMesa fonts are hand-drawn and kerned, strictly shunning automatic scanning methods for creation.
