About "Bembo MT"

Bembo, a font with its origins dating back to the Italian Renaissance and the famous printer Aldus Manutius, has a rich history.

In 1496, Aldus Manutius used a new roman typeface designed by Francesco Griffo to print the book "de Aetna" by Pietro Bembo.

Griffo, an early pioneer in transitioning from the heavier pen-drawn humanist calligraphy to the more stylized roman type we know today, was the mastermind behind this type.

In 1929, Stanley Morison and the Monotype Corporation's design team revived Griffo's work, resulting in the creation of the Bembo font.

They made several adjustments to the fifteenth-century letters to make it more suitable for machine composition.

Bembo's italic, on the other hand, is based on the work of Renaissance scribe Giovanni Tagliente.

The lighter weights of Bembo are beloved in book typography for their quiet presence and graceful stability.

Conversely, the heavier weights lend a sense of conservative reliability to advertising and packaging projects.

Boasting 31 weights, which include small caps, old-style figures, expert characters, and an alternate cap R, Bembo stands as a versatile and comprehensive font family suitable for various applications.
