Gramma

Gramma is a compact sans with a big x-height that works well both for headlines and main bodies of text for print and screen.

Its design was the result of an exploration of reading letters at very big and very small sizes.

The digital letters can be reproduced at any size, from minute to gigantic, with the result that their visual perception is altered, and some features of Gramma play around with this peculiarity.

The arches of the letters are squarish, and the counters and other internal spaces push outward, creating a tension that balances the compressed letterforms.

Gramma’s most evident characteristic is its ‘bird-beak’ terminals (present in many letters, including the c, e, f, s…) that replicate the unconnected junctures between stem and curve, visible in a, b, d, g, h.

Since the early stages of its development, Gramma has been used in several printed projects, from branding to magazines.

Available in five weights from Light to Bold, in 2021 this robust and balanced typeface was completed with the addition of matching italics.
